This year, 2022, the Island Council of Fuerteventura is once again organizing training workshops for learning craft trades. And as before, the artisans from our association are involved.
This time, the workshops will benefit from the experience of Paula M. da Cruz Pinto, Martin Rehák, Guido Giovando, Felipe Bobadilla and Carmen González, as well as other colleagues who are waiting for their respective dates to be finalized.

All the workshops are free of charge with advance registration, and here’s the most important thing: there are still places available!
This leather goods workshop will focus on working leather by making a piece chosen by the student, using pattern making, cutting, engraving, embossing, joining and hand sewing techniques.
Dates: 14 March to 4 April 2022
Timetable: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. (40 teaching hours)
Place: The artisan’s workshop in Antigua (Diseminado de Goma, 12)
Vacancies: Maximum of 6 participants
Registration period: 1–9 March

This workshop will give participants a basic knowledge of the materials used to make macramé pieces, development of simple knots and their use in everyday practice, as well as more complex techniques with advanced knots and their application. Participants will create their own pieces according to their preferences, giving free rein to their imagination.
Dates: 21 March to 27 April 2022
Timetable: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. (40 teaching hours)
Place: The artisan’s workshop in Las Salinas del Carmen (Francisco García Darías, 53)
Vacancies: Maximum of 4 participants
Registration period: 7–16 March

In this workshop participants will learn the blowtorch technique and how to the glass fusing kiln to make a range of objects like necklaces, figures, dishes, trays, etc..

The course will be divided into 3 stages:
1. Theory: Discussion of characteristics of glass, tools used, safety rules, etc.
2. Blowtorch practice: first contact with molten glass
3. Kiln practice: from cutting to the finished piece
Dates: 21 March to 29 April 2022
Timetable: Group 1: Mondays from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. (40 teaching hours)
Group 2: Fridays from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. (40 teaching hours)
Place: The artisan’s workshop in Las Playitas (Guanchinerfe,35)
Vacancies: Maximum of 4 participants
Registration period: 7–16 March

Advanced continuation workshop on the craft of leather working aimed at people who already have basic knowledge of producing leather objects. In the course of the workshop each participant will make a piece of their own choice by applying advanced techniques with precision and skill.

Timetable: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m (40 teaching hours)
Place: The artisan’s workshop in Antigua (Diseminado de Goma, 12)
Vacancies: Maximum of 6 participants
Registration period: 5–12 April

Throughout this workshop participants will learn how to handle the sewing machine properly and acquire sufficient knowledge to be able to realise their own sewing projects. The aim is for people to create new projects independently or to improve finished ones.

Dates: 24 May to 28 July 2022.
Timetable: Tuesday and Thursday from 10.00 a.m. to 12 noon (40 teaching hours).
Place: The artisan’s workshop in Puerto del Rosario (Calle Guanarteme, 16).
Vacancies: Maximum 2 participants.
Registration period: 9–20 May.

*Each participant must bring their own sewing machine.
